EpiShodo 3: 秋桜 COSMOS!

Cosmos, the cherry blossom of Autumn.

The cherry blossom of autumn is called Cosmos! The kanji is 秋Aki Autumn and 桜Sakura Cherry blossom. As the season changes so do situations in our lives. The changing colors from green to bright red and yellow, signal things we must let go but the bright cosmos assure us of the wonderful things to come! With each stroke I invite you to reflect on your autumn season . What does the season mean to you? Have you had to embrace or let go of things, situations or relationships? I’d love to hear about it.

UPDATE! CORRECTION! The true beauty of practicing Japanese calligraphy 書道 shodo is found in the process which includes making mistakes. 😥 However, it is not often that those mistakes are recorded and published on the internet for all to see as in this case for me in my most recent YouTube Video! 👀 I made a mistake with the writing order of “kihen” and “nogihen” (that is placed on the left side of both kanji). The stroke order in the beginning of the video written by my shodo parter is correct. The black ink written by me is incorrect. ( In writing kanji, the stroke order is important.) 👩🏽‍🎨 Indeed, a past version of myself would have been mortified and completely embarrassed by this. 🍂 However, over the years I have learned to learn from failures, mishaps, and unfortunate situations. 🧠 As I discuss in the above mentioned shodo video, I’ve had plenty of unfortunate happenings this autumn season so it is actually quite fitting that I made this public mistake!
