Would you dare?

Sometimes the unknown, going against the grain, trying something new and different is well worth the fear (or laziness) it so often comes along with, even with something as insignificant as taking a different route home.

Yesterday I went to pick up a bottle of avocado oil that my sweet pal, Shoko, so graciously picked up for me at Costco. I decided to use the backpack that my exchange student from Mexico gifted me last year. I rarely use it but thought to switch things up.  After picking up the oil, I decided to switch things up again and walk home instead of taking the bus as I normally would have since it was such a nice day.

Again, in the spirit of exploration and discovery, I decided to take a different and new route back. As I made my way down an unfamiliar street, I heard a familiar sound; salsa music coming from a brightly colored storefront!
Hola, El Domingo! A lovely cozy restaurant that serves tacos and burgers including veggie burgers!

Chatting with the friendly owner, Chiaki, I learned that she had lived in LA with a Mexican roommate for some time. She loved the cuisine so much that she learned to make American and Mexican food and opened up her shop in Japan!

She even makes and sells her own original hot sauce! ( As you’d guess I bought one!) I enjoyed my cactus taco and the relaxing atmosphere that made me feel like I was back in Queens! (I went out of my way to find my way back home! ) ごちそう^ ^

With yummy food in my belly and my avocado oil in my bag, I merrily made my way home. On the way, I realized that the avocado oil is a product of Mexico. That made me smile. It was as if it was all meant to be.

Perhaps it was.  ¡Viva México!
Would you dare to try something new or switch things up today?
